Former Minister of Information Labaran Maku has criticized Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, accusing him of dismissing the contributions of those who fought for Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Maku said it was unfair for individuals who did not participate in the pro-democracy struggle to criticize those who dedicated years to resisting military rule and advocating for civil governance.
“While we were fighting for democracy, he was selling sugar in Lagos; today he calls us serial complainants,” Maku said, responding to comments he said were directed at his repeated criticisms of political developments in Nasarawa State.
Maku argued that the sacrifices of pro-democracy activists laid the foundation for Nigeria’s current democratic system and should not be belittled. He maintained that his public service record and political activism demonstrate his commitment to democratic values.
He added that his continued criticism of governance and electoral issues stems from a commitment to fairness, accountability, and justice, insisting that speaking out against perceived wrongdoing is a responsibility of those who helped strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
