African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kola Ologbondiyan has criticised the Federal Government’s implementation of the fuel subsidy removal policy, saying it has imposed significant economic hardship on Nigerians without adequate relief measures.
Speaking during an interview aired on Channels Television and shared on the station’s official YouTube channel on Monday, July 6, 2026, Ologbondiyan said he supports fuel subsidy removal in principle but argued that it should have been implemented gradually to reduce its impact on citizens, businesses and state governments.
He noted that while state governments have received increased revenue following the policy, many Nigerians continue to struggle with the rising cost of living. Questioning suggestions that citizens should seek assistance from state governors, Ologbondiyan argued that most Nigerians have little or no direct access to their governors.
“You can’t take all our money and give it to the governors, then expect us to go back to them for help,” he said.
Ologbondiyan called for greater accountability in the management of public funds and urged governments at all levels to prioritise citizens’ welfare as the country faces mounting economic challenges.
