Senator Ali Ndume has called for a more decisive approach in tackling banditry and terrorism, saying security agencies must act quickly against individuals confirmed to be involved in violent crimes.
Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in a video shared by AIT News, Ndume said bandits and terrorists pose a serious danger to innocent citizens and should not be allowed to continue threatening communities.
According to the senator, once security agencies establish that an individual is a terrorist or bandit, they must respond swiftly because failure to act could result in more casualties.
“You don’t spare a bandit; you don’t spare a terrorist. Once you identify a terrorist, because if you don’t kill him, he will kill you,” Ndume said.
Ndume also supported the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund (NNSTF), an initiative launched by governors of the 19 northern states to improve security coordination. The governors agreed to contribute ₦1 billion monthly from member states to support regional security efforts.
The senator said insecurity should not be handled solely by the Federal Government, stressing that state governments also have a role in protecting communities.
He urged the new security initiative to work closely with existing security agencies to ensure better coordination and effective responses to threats.
