You Send People Who Stole Billions To Prison In Van, Why Do You Want To Put Me In Black Maria – Sowore

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, has questioned the manner in which he was transported to the Kuje Correctional Centre following a remand order by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore was remanded in connection with an ongoing legal dispute involving the Department of State Services (DSS) over statements he allegedly made describing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “criminal.”

Speaking in an interview after the court proceedings, Sowore said he objected when correctional officials directed him to board a Black Maria, a vehicle commonly used to transport inmates and detainees.

According to the activist, he challenged the decision, arguing that individuals accused of large-scale financial crimes are often transported in regular vans.

“When you are sending people who stole billions to prison, you put them in a van. Why do you want to put me in Black Maria?” he said.

Sowore maintained that his case arose from political expression and activism rather than allegations of financial misconduct. He argued that the mode of transportation reflected unequal treatment and questioned the rationale behind the decision.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to Sowore’s prominence as a political activist and outspoken critic of government policies. Supporters have described the matter as raising broader concerns about freedom of expression, while critics argue that public commentary by political figures must remain within the limits of the law.

The legal proceedings are expected to continue at a later date.
