Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has responded to comments by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff on Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential prospects by sharing an old video of politician and rights activist Hajiya Naja’atu Muhammad.
Tanko posted the video on his verified X account after Sheriff, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, questioned Obi’s leadership qualities and claimed he would struggle to win support in Northern Nigeria.
In his post, Tanko said the video contained public statements by Naja’atu Muhammad alleging Sherman’s involvement in the emergence of Boko Haram, stressing that the remarks were on the public record and not his personal claims. He also defended Obi, saying the former Anambra State governor criminalised terrorism regardless of religion or ethnicity and rejected allegations that Obi expelled Northerners from Anambra, citing former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s previous denial of the claim.
Tanko urged Nigerians to base political debates on verified facts rather than disputed allegations, concluding his post with the message, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The allegations referenced in the shared video have circulated publicly for years. However, no Nigerian court has found Ali Modu Sheriff guilty of involvement in the creation or sponsorship of Boko Haram, and he has consistently denied the allegations.
