Security analyst Dr. Yahuza Getso has recounted how a community in Zamfara State allegedly returned an AK-47 rifle seized from a suspected bandit after receiving threats of a retaliatory attack.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Getso said residents confiscated the rifle from a bandit who entered their community. However, he claimed that within days, the leader of the group sent a message demanding the weapon’s return and threatened to attack the community if it failed to comply.
“In the same Zamfara, within less than a week, members of a community seized an AK-47 from one of the bandits. The bandit leader… sent a letter asking them to return his AK-47 or else he would attack them,” Getso said.
According to Getso, the residents eventually returned the rifle out of fear. He added that a military formation was located less than one kilometre from the community, challenging anyone to verify or dispute his account.
Getso also alleged that many bandits and terrorists are known to local residents because they often operate in areas where they were born or raised. His account has not been independently verified.
