Sixteen-year-old Osasere Okundaye has become Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant after successfully passing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) professional examinations.
According to Punch, the achievement sets a new national age record in the accounting profession and places Okundaye among the country’s youngest professional achievers.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, congratulated her in a public statement, describing the feat as a testament to discipline, resilience and academic excellence. He said her success demonstrates the potential of Nigerian youths to achieve significant professional milestones with determination and the right support.
ICAN certification is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most demanding professional qualifications, requiring candidates to complete multiple stages of examinations covering accounting, finance and ethics before attaining chartered status.
Okundaye breaks the previous record set by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at age 17 in 2022. Before him, Temilola Blossom Arise attracted national attention after qualifying as a chartered accountant at the age of 18.
