5 women burned in drive-by acid attack

Five women were rushed to the hospital after suspects riding a moped threw acid at them Monday night in New Jersey, according to the Jersey City Police Department.

The women were in the area of 105 Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City when two suspects drove past their car and splashed them with sulfuric acid, officials said.

“All five victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that included skin burns and peeling,” police said in a statement. “All 5 victims are stable.”

Officials did not identify the victims.

The attack appears to be targeted and connected to “a dispute between a large group of people” that happened earlier on in the day, police said.

The two suspects believed to be responsible for the incident are still at large.

In a statement, Jersey City Mayor James Solomon said he will ensure officers “work around the clock to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

“My thoughts are with those hurt in this horrific attack, and I want our communities to know that violence like this has absolutely no place on our streets,” Solomon said.
