I Begged Obasanjo To Gift Me His Clothes, He Refused So I Feigned A Cry And He Gave It To Me – Oputa

Veteran entertainer and social commentator Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared a humorous story about how he persuaded former President Olusegun Obasanjo to give him a traditional outfit he admired.

Speaking during an interview with TVC, Charly Boy said he first noticed the outfit in a video showing Obasanjo at a cultural festival and immediately became interested in owning it. When he later visited the former president, he seized the opportunity to request the attire.

According to Charly Boy, Obasanjo initially declined to part with the outfit despite his repeated appeals. Determined to get it, he resorted to a playful tactic.

“I just saw a video of him in one festival and when I went over to visit him I said, ‘Baba, I need that thing you wore that day.’ When I want something, I must get it and I got it that day. When he said, ‘No, I am not going to give it to you,’ I feigned a cry and Baba said, ‘Please, I don’t want his trouble, go and bring it and give it to him,’” he recalled.

The anecdote has drawn attention online, with many social media users reacting to the lighthearted account. The story also offered a glimpse into the cordial relationship between the veteran entertainer and the former president, highlighting a personal moment away from their more public roles.
