Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence that goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will soon secure a new club, insisting the Nigeria international is too talented to remain unattached.
Speaking during a football discussion reported by TVC News on June 25, 2026, Ekong attributed Nwabali’s current situation to the timing of his departure from his former club in South Africa, which occurred outside a transfer window.
According to Ekong, the timing made it difficult for the goalkeeper to find a new team despite his quality and experience.
“I think probably the situation hasn’t been favourable for him because the time he terminated his contract with his former club in South Africa was outside the transfer window, which is always a very difficult period for any player to find a new club no matter how good you are,” Ekong said.
The Super Eagles captain revealed that he has remained in contact with Nwabali and noted that the goalkeeper has continued training and maintaining his fitness while awaiting a new opportunity.
“I am sure he’s going to find a club and return back to playing football because we sincerely need him for the national team. Stanley is too good to be without a club,” he added.
Ekong’s comments come amid continued uncertainty over Nwabali’s club future ahead of the new season.
