2027: If You Want to Defeat Tinubu, You Need Experience, Structure & Money, Not Just Youths — Tanimu

Adamu Tanimu, a stakeholder in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said the opposition’s support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is driven by political strategy rather than sentiment, arguing that defeating President Bola Tinubu requires experience, nationwide structure, and substantial resources.

Speaking in an interview aired on Trust TV’s official YouTube channel on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Tanimu said Tinubu’s political experience, extensive network, and financial strength make him a formidable opponent.

“You want to defeat a politician like Tinubu who has a lot of experience, structure, and money, meaning that when you talk about this youth presidency, you’re talking about something you build over the next 10 or 20 years because we don’t have the luxury of time,” he said.

Tanimu acknowledged the aspiration for younger Nigerians to assume the presidency but argued that building the political structures needed to win a national election is a long-term process. He added that the opposition’s immediate priority is to field a candidate with an established nationwide support base capable of mounting a credible challenge.

According to Tanimu, the country’s socio-economic challenges have increased the urgency for political change, making broad alliances around experienced politicians the opposition’s most practical strategy for the 2027 general election.
