The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has criticized First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu over her remarks encouraging women to consider businesses such as akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli vending. In a statement signed by Convener Olusola Badero, the group urged the First Lady to “lead by example” by selling the items in Surulere, Lagos, and called on Iyaloja-General Folashade Tinubu-Ojo to hawk them at Oju Elegba. The union argued that women deserve meaningful economic support through innovation and technology rather than roadside trading.
In Adamawa State, police and local hunters rescued kidnapping victim Alhaji Rabe Suleiman after tracing his captors to a hideout near the Morogma Mountains. According to police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, the kidnappers fled with suspected bullet wounds during a gun battle, leaving the victim unharmed.
In Gombe State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all 24 chairmanship and councilorship seats in the local government elections. Electoral commission chairman Abdullahi Garba attributed the expanded exercise to the creation of 13 additional Local Council Development Areas.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar alleged that attempts to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) are aimed at weakening opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election. He warned that any move to restrict political competition could undermine Nigeria’s democracy and encourage a one-party state.
