Danfulani Who Captured General Rabe Was Having Discussions, They Said He Was a Nice Person — Kurfi

Dr. Bashir Kurfi has called for greater involvement of local stakeholders in efforts to combat banditry and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, arguing that community engagement can complement military operations.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on June 24, 2026, Kurfi said lasting peace cannot be achieved through force alone. He urged authorities to work with trusted community figures who understand local dynamics and can help facilitate dialogue, intelligence gathering and conflict resolution.

Kurfi noted that residents of affected communities often possess valuable information about the activities and movements of armed groups, making them important partners in broader security efforts.

Citing the case of Muhammadu Danfulani and the capture of notorious bandit leader General Rabe, Kurfi said communication reportedly played a role in the process.

“Even the case of Muhammadu Danfulani who captured General Rabe. He was having discussions. They said he was a nice person, they could communicate with him and that he would help them stop some of the bandits when they come,” he said.

While acknowledging the importance of military and law enforcement operations, Kurfi maintained that sustainable peace requires a combination of security action, dialogue, community participation and local intelligence networks. He said such an inclusive approach could strengthen efforts to prevent attacks and restore stability across the region.
