Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise equipping the Nigeria Police Force rather than simply increasing the number of officers and police stations.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on June 25, 2026, Falana argued that expanding the size of the police force alone would not address Nigeria’s growing security challenges without adequate operational resources.
“It’s not about increasing the number of police stations or Police Men and Women, it’s about equipping the current Police Force,” he said.
Falana maintained that effective policing depends on providing officers with modern equipment, proper training, reliable intelligence and improved logistics. He warned that adding more personnel or establishing additional police stations would have limited impact if existing officers continued to operate with inadequate resources.
According to the human rights lawyer, well-trained and properly equipped officers are better positioned to combat crime, protect communities and respond effectively to the country’s security challenges.
