How a Suspect Scammed 60 Students of School Fees Totaling About ₦15m, Used Money to Buy Dogs — Edafe

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected fraudster accused of defrauding more than 60 university students of about ₦15 million in school fees.

According to a video shared on June 26, 2026, by the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, the suspect, a JUPEB student at a university in Delta State, allegedly posed as a course representative and offered to help fellow students pay their school fees, acceptance fees and other institutional charges.

Police said the suspect gained the students’ trust but allegedly paid only his own fees while diverting the rest of the funds for personal use.

“He acted like he was a course rep… told them that he would help them easily pay their school fees, acceptance and other fees,” Edafe said. “Instead, he paid his own school fees but successfully scammed over 60 students… collected as high as ₦250,000 to ₦300,000 and, according to him, used the money to buy dogs and squandered the rest.”

The police said each victim reportedly paid between ₦250,000 and ₦300,000, with the total amount estimated at about ₦15 million. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
