When Obi and Some of Us Joined NDC on May 3, They Woke Up on May 4 and Filed an Application, Umeh Says

Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the National Assembly, says some individuals are opposed to former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi appearing on the ballot in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in a video posted on the official X account of Arise News on Monday, June 29, 2026, Umeh reacted to a court decision that set aside a judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

According to the senator, legal action followed shortly after Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other political figures joined the NDC on May 3, 2026.

“When Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and some of us joined the NDC on May 3, they woke up on May 4 and filed an application to set aside the registration of a party that has been existing for about five months,” Umeh said.

He maintained that the sequence of events suggested that some people did not want Obi to contest the 2027 presidential election under the party’s platform.
