Babcock University has dismissed claims that comedian and content creator Carter Efe graduated with a “First Class Upper” degree in Biochemistry, describing the certificate circulating on social media as fake and unauthorised.
According to TheCable, the university said in a statement on Monday that the document did not originate from its registry or any recognised academic office and contained multiple irregularities inconsistent with its records and grading system.
The controversy followed claims by Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, that he graduated from the university with high academic honours before sharing what he described as his certificate online.
“There is no academic classification or degree known to Babcock University as First Class Upper. The recognized classification is First Class Honours,” the university said.
Babcock explained that First Class Honours is its official academic distinction and is awarded only through verified degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Registrar’s Office. It urged employers, academic institutions, professional bodies and government agencies to verify certificates presented in its name.
The university added that it is considering legal action against those responsible for producing or circulating the disputed document, warning that anyone found guilty of forging or using fraudulent academic credentials could face investigation and prosecution.
