Reactions have followed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s claim that it has uploaded the name of its reported presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a post on its official X account on June 30, the party announced that Obi’s details had been successfully submitted as part of its election preparations.
“We have successfully uploaded the name of our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on INEC portal,” the party stated.
The announcement came amid reports that the Federal High Court in Lokoja had set aside an earlier judgment said to have directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party, prompting questions about the party’s legal status.
The claim generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users welcoming the development while others questioned the announcement and sought clarification on the party’s eligibility and the candidate nomination process.
The NDC’s statement does not constitute official confirmation that INEC has accepted or validated any presidential candidacy. Formal recognition remains subject to the commission’s guidelines and applicable legal requirements.
