Obi: You Say You Want to Unite Nigeria, Yet You Could Not Unite APGA When You Were Governor – Raimi

Economic analyst and APC member Dr. Taofiq Raimi has questioned the leadership credentials of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, arguing that calls for national unity should be supported by a proven record of building consensus.

Speaking during an interview aired on Arise News on Friday, July 3, 2026, Raimi said Obi’s past political experience raised doubts about his ability to unite Nigeria. He referenced Obi’s time as governor, claiming he failed to unite members of APGA.

“You say you want to unite Nigeria, yet you could not even unite members of APGA when you were governor,” Raimi said.

Raimi argued that governing Nigeria requires strong leadership, political experience, and the ability to manage the country’s ethnic, religious, and political diversity. He added that a leader’s performance within smaller political organizations can serve as an indicator of readiness to govern a diverse nation.

He also questioned whether Obi’s previous political engagements demonstrated sufficient leadership to convince Nigerians that he could successfully foster national unity if elected president.
