Barrister Emeka Ugwuonye has reflected on his legal career, saying he studied and taught law at Harvard before working with major international institutions and later representing the Nigerian government.
Speaking on the KAATRUTH Podcast on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Ugwuonye said he gained public attention in Nigeria after representing the Federal Government in the Abdulsalam Abiola case, which he said began in 2021. He noted that he had already established a legal career internationally before then.
According to Ugwuonye, he attended Harvard Law School, later taught law there, and worked at both the World Bank and the African Development Bank. He added that he provided legal advisory services to several governments before Nigeria became one of his clients.
“I taught law at Harvard. I worked at the World Bank. I worked for the African Development Bank. I advised many governments. Nigeria became a client to me,” Ugwuonye said.
His remarks highlighted the professional background he says preceded his emergence in Nigeria’s public legal space.
