Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi has explained why he recently said he might not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, as reported by Vanguard on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Obi alleged that the current administration has been deliberately frustrating his businesses and other legitimate sources of livelihood.
Addressing the controversy sparked by his earlier remarks, Obi said the sustained pressure on his business interests informed his comments about the uncertainty of the future.
“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” he said.
The remarks have drawn mixed reactions nationwide, with some dismissing them as political rhetoric while others called for his safety to be taken seriously. However, there is no publicly available evidence independently verifying Obi’s allegation that the government is deliberately targeting his businesses.
