Oyo Abduction: Rescued Principal Reveals Why Kidnappers Killed Two Teachers

The rescued principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed that kidnappers killed two teachers during their 56-day captivity to pressure the government into meeting their demands.

According to a report by Punch on Monday, July 13, 2026, Alamu, who was abducted alongside teachers and pupils, said the kidnappers believed the killings would force the government to respond because they knew the incident had attracted widespread attention.

The victims were Mathematics teacher Mr. Michael Oyedokun, who was beheaded on the second day of the abduction, and Mr. Esiyan Adegboye, 49, who was shot during the attack and later buried in Ogbomoso on May 22.

Speaking after she and the rescued victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Oyo State Government House, Alamu said they spent most of their captivity in an open forest, enduring harsh weather while trying to protect and comfort the children. She added that their faith in God and the prayers of supporters sustained them throughout the ordeal.

Alamu said she was not physically assaulted, although some younger pupils were severely beaten whenever they cried or made noise. The victims were later released by security agencies, received medical treatment and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, and were handed over to the Oyo State Government. Governor Makinde and APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli subsequently visited them.:::
