Social commentator Isaac Fayose has spoken about his strained relationship with his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, saying their differing political views have created a deep divide between them.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Fayose described himself as a social commentator and government critic, while portraying his brother as a career politician who is part of the political establishment he often criticises.
According to Isaac Fayose, his brother benefited from politics and, if given the opportunity, would support the type of leadership he now associates with President Bola Tinubu.
He recalled that Ayo Fayose was a vocal critic of former President Muhammadu Buhari while serving as governor of Ekiti State but questioned what he described as a change in his political stance.
“When my brother was governor, he stood well, he was against Buhari. And now you can see what is going on. How can you even be in APC and be in PDP at the same time? How can you be morning and night at the same time?” Isaac Fayose said.
Fayose said he finds it difficult to understand how his brother can remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while, according to him, supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He argued that the situation reflects what he sees as the growing contradictions in Nigerian politics and claimed that the country’s democracy is no longer functioning as it should.
Isaac Fayose also revealed that he and his brother once held frequent political debates before their relationship deteriorated. According to him, they have since blocked each other and no longer communicate directly.
He added that their mother has, on several occasions, urged him to stop criticising his brother to avoid causing her distress.
