Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Solomon Dalung has questioned recent U.S. commendation of Nigeria’s security efforts, arguing that the country’s security challenges remain largely unchanged.
According to a Daily Post report published on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Dalung made the remarks during an interview with Trust TV, where he criticized the Tinubu administration’s handling of insecurity.
He argued that the continued activities of terrorists, bandits and kidnappers contradict the positive assessment reportedly given by the United States.
“Since the Americans came, the terrorists, bandits and kidnappers have continued attacking, killing and kidnapping with impunity. There is no single achievement they can point to,” Dalung said.
The former minister also alleged, without providing evidence, that the U.S. commendation resulted from a lobbying campaign by the Nigerian government.
Dalung maintained that despite foreign support and security interventions, violent attacks and kidnappings continue across the country. He said the effectiveness of the government’s security strategy should be measured by the level of violence experienced by Nigerians rather than international endorsements.
