Prof. Wole Alamu, husband of Rachael Alamu, one of the victims of the Oriire school kidnapping, has expressed gratitude to the Muslim community in Oyo State for the support he received following his wife’s abduction.
Speaking in an interview published by Splash FM 105.5, Alamu described the period after the kidnapping as heartbreaking but said he was deeply moved by the compassion shown by Muslims despite his conversion to Christianity.
He revealed that he spent the first 35 years of his life as a Muslim and served as an imam before converting to Christianity. He also said that while studying at the University of Ibadan, he was the second-in-command of the Muslim students’ community.
“There were many things that made me grateful during the period of the abduction and the search for the girls. The Muslim community in Oyo State was the first to come to my aid, while the Muslim community in LAUTECH was the second,” he said.
Alamu added, “The first 35 years of my life, I spent in the mosque. In case you are wondering, I was an imam,” noting that the experience reaffirmed the goodwill and support he received across religious lines.
