Mrs. Rachael Alamu, the school principal abducted alongside teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has recounted how she recovered from illness while in captivity, attributing her recovery to God’s intervention.
According to a Punch Newspaper report published on July 27, 2026, Alamu shared the testimony during a thanksgiving service after her release.
She said she became seriously ill toward the end of her captivity and asked one of the kidnappers, whom she identified as the camp commander, for two tablets of paracetamol despite not knowing what medication he would provide.
“I called one of them, the camp commander, and asked if I could have two tablets of paracetamol. He agreed and gave me some tablets. The woman sitting beside me said, ‘Mommy, this is not paracetamol.’ I replied, ‘God will work through it.’ I took the medication and, by God’s grace, it was as though I had never experienced the symptoms of malaria,” Alamu said.
She added that although she never learned what medication she had taken, she recovered quickly and regained her strength while still in captivity. Alamu said the experience strengthened her faith and expressed gratitude to God for preserving her life throughout the ordeal.
