Former Arsène Wenger believes Spain national football team are the only side capable of stopping France national football team from winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro, Wenger said France are favourites for the title but argued Spain’s superior technical quality and collective style could prove decisive.
“France will win the World Cup,” Wenger said, adding that Spain’s “technical level is better than France” and that they possess “a culture of collective football that nobody else in the world has at that level.”
France have reached the quarter-finals after winning all three group matches against Norway, Senegal and Iraq, scoring 10 goals. They then defeated Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 before edging Paraguay 1-0 in the Round of 16. Didier Deschamps’ side will next face Morocco national football team, while Spain take on Belgium national football team, with a potential semi-final meeting between France and Spain at stake.
Former England defender Gary Neville offered a contrasting view, saying reigning champions Argentina national football team have the mentality, experience and unity needed to challenge France.
