Peter Obi has alleged that he has faced persistent intimidation and obstruction because of his role as an opposition figure, claiming the actions extend beyond normal political rivalry.
Speaking during an interview on With Chude on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Obi said, “Every single thing I do for a living, this government is deliberately frustrating.”
The former Anambra State governor claimed he has encountered difficulties carrying out routine activities and accessing services, adding that some people now avoid publicly associating with him for fear of possible repercussions. He also said friends and supporters have advised him to avoid family ceremonies and public events over concerns about his safety.
Obi argued that such an environment is incompatible with democratic principles, maintaining that citizens should be free to associate with political leaders of their choice without fear of intimidation or discrimination.
He called for greater respect for democratic freedoms, equal treatment of all political actors and the protection of civil liberties. Obi’s allegations have not been independently verified, and the Federal Government has not publicly responded to the specific claims.
