One of the students rescued after the attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Borno State, Wadiem Bitrus, has recounted how she escaped after being abducted by armed attackers.
Speaking in a video shared by Trust TV, Wadiem said she was captured after falling when the attackers shot a man identified as Malam Goni. She said the abductors took victims into the bush on motorcycles, but their escape was disrupted when one of the motorcycles developed a fault.
“They captured me after I fell when they shot Malam Goni. They took us into the bush on motorcycles, but one of the motorcycles had a fault. While they were trying to repair it, we heard heavy gunfire. My friend and I hid until security personnel rescued us after the exchange of fire. I was injured during the attack,” she said.
Wadiem added that she remains traumatised and fears returning to school. She also said she witnessed several classmates, including Rebecca, Victoria, Lydia and Waziri, being taken away, expressing concern for those who remain in captivity.
