Peter Obi has defended his decision to choose Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate, describing him as a leader committed to improving the lives of poor Nigerians and investing in human capital development.
Speaking during a recent interview on YouTube, Obi rejected claims that Kwankwaso was selected solely because of his political structure, insisting the former Kano State governor was chosen for his commitment to education and poverty reduction.
“Kwankwaso is one politician that I can say anywhere who cares for the interest of the poor. He believes in pulling people out of poverty. He believes in training a child of nobody to become something, and that aligns with my position,” Obi said.
Obi also stressed that education and healthcare remain central to his vision for Nigeria’s development. He argued that countries such as China, Malaysia and the Asian Tigers achieved rapid economic growth by prioritising investment in human capital rather than focusing primarily on physical infrastructure, adding that addressing Nigeria’s out-of-school children crisis would remain a top priority.
