Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi, has defended the Tinubu administration’s efforts to address Nigeria’s security challenges, saying the government’s actions should be acknowledged despite ongoing insecurity.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Gagdi said tackling insecurity is a collective responsibility and urged Nigerians to set aside religious, ethnic and political differences in the fight against terrorism.
He noted that, as a lawmaker with oversight responsibilities, he is aware of the measures being taken by the current administration and has also contributed through security-related legislation.
“I will not refuse to tell you here that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not make any effort toward solving the security problem. Promising to fix the security problem, and putting effort toward fixing the security problem should be recognized,” Gagdi said.
The lawmaker argued that while Nigerians expect tangible results, the government’s commitment and efforts to improve security should also be considered when assessing its performance. He maintained that acknowledging those efforts does not diminish the need for continued action to address the country’s security challenges.
