Four suspects arrested over the killing of University of Jos (UNIJOS) Political Science student Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” have allegedly confessed to participating in the mob attack that led to his death.
According to Vanguard News, the suspects were paraded by the Plateau State Police Command in Jos on Tuesday. They admitted assaulting Mbaya after accusing him of stealing an iPhone and attempting to force him to reveal its location.
One of the suspects, Emmanuel Newyear, 30, said the victim initially claimed the phone was “at Naraguta Hostel beside a tree.”
“When we questioned him, he told us the phone was at Naraguta Hostel beside a tree. We went there and searched but did not find it,” Newyear said, adding that Mbaya later directed them to Rayfield, where the phone was also not found.
Newyear admitted slapping the victim and striking him three times with a wooden plank, while another suspect, Teslor Joshua, confessed to restraining Mbaya during the assault. The incident, captured in a viral video, has sparked widespread outrage as police continue their investigation.
