Mr Ibu’s Widow Appeals for Help Amid Financial Hardship

The widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed for public assistance as her family struggles with mounting financial challenges.

According to a report by Punch on June 25, 2026, she disclosed in a video interview with content creator King Mitchy that she and her children are facing difficulties, including unpaid rent, outstanding school fees, and utility bills.

She revealed that the family has been without electricity for about two months after their power supply was disconnected due to unpaid bills. As a result, they have had to charge their phones outside the home and rely on well water for daily needs.

“We have been like that,” she said while describing their situation.

One of the actor’s daughters praised her mother’s efforts to keep the family afloat, saying she continues to work hard to provide food and support the children despite the hardship.

The widow also disclosed that her children have been unable to continue attending school because of unpaid fees, adding that the school recently contacted her over the outstanding payments.

The appeal seeks support to help the family settle rent arrears, pay school fees, and restore electricity. Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
