Police in Ogun State have arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the killing of retired broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The victims were found dead at Oyesiku’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21. Her Lexus RX 330 was also reported missing from the property.
Speaking on June 25, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said investigators recovered the stolen vehicle and obtained key leads from a handwritten note found at the crime scene, which was subjected to forensic analysis.
The principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, a former security guard employed by the deceased, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. His confession led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices: Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
According to Ojajuni, Philip told investigators that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson” over grievances stemming from his previous employment.
Police said the suspects first overpowered Adetayo before gaining access to Oyesiku’s apartment and killing her. They later killed the security guard.
Detectives recovered several items linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen. The suspects will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
