Osa Director, National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has shared the story behind his unusual name, revealing it was inspired by his late father’s hopes for his surviving children after the loss of six others.
Speaking on the Symfony podcast, Osa described his father as an intelligent man who, despite lacking a Western education, remained resilient after the family’s tragedy. According to him, his father believed his surviving children were destined for success and gave them names reflecting that conviction.
He said his eldest brother was named Minister, the second Doctor, while he was named Director to symbolize the future his father envisioned for him.
Osa recalled embracing the name from childhood, insisting that family members and friends address him as “Director” rather than using a shortened version. Over time, he said, the name became a defining part of his identity.
Reflecting on his father’s decision, Osa said the names represented faith, resilience and optimism, serving as lasting reminders of his father’s determination that his surviving children would overcome adversity and achieve success.
