Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has accused critics of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of ignoring positive developments under the administration despite recent reductions in petrol and cooking gas prices.
In a statement posted on social media, Omokri said fuel and cooking gas prices fell this week and were expected to decline further next week, challenging Nigerians to verify the claim. He argued that many who criticise the government when prices increase have remained silent about the latest reductions.
“Petrol and cooking gas prices have decreased this week and are set for further reductions next week… But you did not praise President Tinubu. Yet, if the reverse happens and they increase, you will be the first to criticise the President,” he said.
Omokri also claimed Nigeria ranked as Africa’s best-performing economy in the 2026 International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking, saying the achievement received little public attention because it reflected positively on the government.
He further credited the administration with maintaining three years of uninterrupted academic activities in Nigerian universities and defended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s “Akara economy” initiative, arguing it has empowered thousands of women through small-scale businesses. Omokri urged Nigerians to acknowledge positive developments alongside criticism of the government.
