Reactions have followed comments by African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore opposing calls for South African singer Tyla’s concert in Lagos to be cancelled over incidents of xenophobia in South Africa.
In a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Sowore argued that the artiste should not be held responsible for the actions of others.
“No one should hold a talented musician like Tyla vicariously liable for the crimes of xenophobia. Artistes are not responsible for the failures of politicians except where there is ample evidence they’re enablers,” he wrote.
His remarks came amid online calls by some social media users for Tyla’s planned performance in Lagos to be cancelled.
