Presidential Panel on State Police Begins Work
The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has commenced work following its inauguration by President Bola Tinubu. Represented by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President said the implementation of state police could no longer be delayed and tasked the panel with developing the legal framework for its rollout.
The committee includes Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Nigerian Bar Association President Afam Osigwe (SAN), Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who chairs the NGF Committee on State Police. A secretariat will provide administrative support.
2027: Lagos Youths Mobilise for Tinubu, Hamzat
The Ikosi-Isheri Active Progressive Youths, an APC youth caucus in Lagos, has launched a grassroots campaign backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat’s governorship ambition. The campaign began with a three-kilometre solidarity walk from Mile 12 Roundabout through Ketu to CMD Road.
Youth leader Alaba Shonaike said the group was recognised but not sponsored by the APC, describing the rally as the first of several political engagement activities ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the group believes Tinubu has delivered on his promises and deserves a second term.
753 Duplexes: Witness Admits No Direct Dealings With Emefiele
A prosecution witness in the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele over the alleged unlawful acquisition of a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja has admitted he never dealt directly with the former CBN chief.
Richard Agulu, a former Zenith Bank employee, told the Federal Capital Territory High Court that although he previously testified to disbursing more than ₦1.6 billion linked to Emefiele, he received instructions through Emefiele’s former personal assistant, Eric Ocheme. He said he never saw Emefiele hand over money, did not have his phone number, and never spoke with him directly.
PFIPC Scandal: Family Members of Criminal Suspect Can’t Be Arrested – Falana on Adeyemi’s Father
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has said security agencies have no legal basis to arrest or detain relatives of criminal suspects solely because of their family relationship. His remarks followed reports surrounding the PFIPC scandal involving Adeyemi’s father, stressing that criminal liability is personal and must be based on evidence against the individual accused.
