When I Was Governor of Ekiti, You Cannot Carry Cows in the State—Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose says open grazing was prohibited during his administration, citing the policy while commenting on the recent approval of state police in Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Monday, June 29, 2026, Fayose addressed the country’s security challenges amid growing public concern over insurgent attacks and kidnappings.

His remarks came after the Nigerian Senate approved legislation to establish state police, a move that has generated mixed reactions across the country, with some Nigerians supporting the proposal and others expressing opposition.

Reflecting on his tenure as governor, Fayose said his administration enforced strict measures against open grazing in Ekiti State.

“During my time as Ekiti’s governor, you were not allowed to move cows in my state; cows were not permitted to roam in my state,” he said.

Fayose’s comments highlighted his view that firm state-level policies can play a role in addressing security and related challenges.
