Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has blamed the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West on alleged attempts by some leaders to control party structures across different states.
Speaking during an interview aired on Channels Television’s official YouTube channel on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Fayose said internal disputes and struggles for influence weakened the PDP and contributed to divisions among its members.
He criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alleging that attempts to influence party affairs beyond his state created tensions among stakeholders.
“When you, as a sitting governor, go to another state to impose your cronies, there are consequences,” Fayose said.
The former governor stated that he had supported Makinde’s rise as a major figure within the party and expected collaboration among party leaders. However, he argued that disagreements over control and leadership contributed to the decline of unity within the opposition party.
Fayose added that political parties can only remain strong when leaders respect one another and work together in the interest of their members and the electorate.
