Mrs. Ngozi Isiwu-Obodo, wife of Inspector Obodo, has recounted the final moments she shared with her husband before he was allegedly knocked down and killed by a police convoy in Enugu on Sunday.
The late officer, 45, who served in the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Command and held a doctorate degree, was on his way to duty when the incident occurred. His wife said he bid farewell to their three young children, bought them snacks, and told her, “Take very good care of yourself and our children,” before boarding a bus.
She said she was later informed through a phone call that her husband had been involved in an accident. On arriving at the scene, officers prevented her from seeing him and later diverted her from the hospital, leaving her unaware that he had already died.
Mrs. Isiwu-Obodo described her husband as a dedicated officer who struggled to earn a PhD while supporting his family. She claimed the Nigeria Police had yet to recognise his qualification for promotion despite requesting PhD holders to submit their credentials.
Appealing for justice, she urged police authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible, alleging the convoy neither stopped to help her husband nor prevented his body from being dragged after the collision.
