Professor Okey Ikechukwu, a strategic management and human capital development expert at Development Specs Academy, has said Peter Obi’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration reflects the sentiments of many Nigerians and is supported by evidence.
Speaking on Arise News, Ikechukwu said every citizen, including opposition figures, has the right to assess government performance, provided their views are based on facts, reason and lawful conduct.
He noted that calls for President Tinubu’s resignation may attract attention but cannot constitutionally remove an elected leader, stressing that elections remain the only legitimate means of political change. He added that Tinubu is unlikely to resign.
Ikechukwu urged opposition parties to move beyond criticism by developing practical strategies, conducting nationwide opinion surveys, and building stronger grassroots structures to engage voters.
He said many Nigerians remain concerned about economic hardship, rising food prices, and insecurity, but argued that public dissatisfaction alone is insufficient to bring political change.
The professor also questioned the preparedness of opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Seyi Makinde, for the 2027 elections, insisting that defeating an organized ruling party would require strategic planning, voter mobilization, and measures to address vote-buying.
