The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu once supported calls for former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to resign over insecurity and economic hardship.
Obi made the statement in a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, June 22, 2026, amid renewed political commentary following CNN’s report on the resignation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In the post, Obi also called for President Tinubu’s resignation, accusing him of failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians and not fulfilling his campaign promises.
“Before 2015, our President on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians,” Obi wrote.
Obi maintained that the current administration has not delivered on key governance areas, including security and economic stability, arguing that leadership accountability should apply consistently across administrations.
