Peter Obi has said a question in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential nomination form should remind public office holders of the need for accountability and responsible leadership.
In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate said the form asked whether he had ever been declared a lunatic or mentally unsound.
Reflecting on the question, Obi argued that many leaders have failed Nigerians, citing the country’s worsening insecurity as evidence that public officials must take their responsibilities more seriously.
He said the question on mental soundness should serve as a constant reminder that leaders are expected to exercise integrity, sound judgment and accountability in public office.
The remarks come as political activities continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
