How Soldiers Broke Into Our Hostels, Stripped Female Students – UNIOSUN

The University of Osun (UNIOSUN) has accused soldiers allegedly attached to the Army Depot in Osogbo of invading off-campus student hostels, assaulting residents and confiscating personal belongings during a late-night operation on Monday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Clement Adeboye, who visited the affected hostels on Tuesday, described the incident as disturbing and confirmed that the university had lodged a formal complaint with the Army Depot. UNIOSUN spokesperson Ademola Adesoji said more than 20 students were affected, alleging that male and female students were assaulted, some female students were forced to remove parts of their clothing and subjected to inappropriate physical contact, while several male students were beaten.

The university said at least two students sustained injuries requiring medical attention and alleged that more than 60 electronic devices were seized. Five soldiers were identified and handed back to military authorities. Adesoji noted that allegations of sexual misconduct had not been independently verified and would be left to official investigators.

The Nigerian Army confirmed it has launched a formal investigation following a petition from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D. The Army said any personnel found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action, appealed for evidence from witnesses and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and transparency.
