Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is planning a major squad rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season, according to a Football London report published on June 30.
The Blues have already signed versatile defender Marco Palestra from Atalanta, with Alonso reportedly valuing the Italian’s ability to play as both a full-back and wing-back.
Chelsea’s priority is strengthening central defence, with Maxence Lacroix their leading target despite negotiations stalling after an initial approach. Further defensive arrivals could depend on departures, as Trevoh Chalobah attracts interest from Como and Inter Milan, with Chelsea valuing him at about £35 million. The futures of Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile also remain under review.
The club is also seeking a new left-back following Marc Cucurella’s exit. Pep Chavarria is among the candidates, while Jorrel Hato is expected to take on a bigger role after an impressive debut season.
In midfield, Chelsea remain determined to sign Granit Xhaka after Sunderland rejected an opening £8 million bid. Alonso, who previously worked with Xhaka at Bayer Leverkusen, is leading the pursuit, and an improved offer is expected. Chelsea also retain interest in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, although Arsenal are currently considered favourites to sign him.
