“When We Said That There’s a Pointer to Ensure Obi Doesn’t Appear on the Ballot, We Meant It” – Tanko

Yunusa Tanko, a close ally of Peter Obi and supporter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that there are efforts to prevent Obi from appearing on the ballot in a future election.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Tanko reacted to the court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to register the NDC, arguing that Nigeria’s democracy cannot thrive if opposition parties are suppressed.

He also claimed that the growing influence of money in politics makes it difficult for credible candidates without substantial financial backing to compete fairly.

Tanko said his earlier warning about attempts to exclude Obi from the ballot was based on what he described as clear indications, alleging that funds had been set aside to achieve that objective.

“When we came out to say that there’s a pointer to ensure that Peter Obi doesn’t appear on the ballot, we meant it,” he said.

Tanko, however, did not provide evidence to support the allegation during the interview, describing it as a claim and challenging the Federal Government to disprove it.
