Yusuf Gagdi has urged Nigerians and political leaders to ensure criticism of government policies is constructive and aimed at improving governance rather than advancing partisan interests.
Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the member of the House of Representatives said governments should be held accountable for their actions but also acknowledged when they perform well.
“Government should be commended where it has done well and criticised where it has not done well. Governments make mistakes. Criticism should be to improve governance and security, not simply for political advantage,” Gagdi said.
He warned against using insecurity as a political tool, arguing that terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes affect Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion.
Gagdi said tackling insecurity requires collaboration among government, opposition parties, security agencies and citizens. He added that constructive criticism should be accompanied by practical recommendations and called on political leaders to prioritise national interest by supporting initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
