Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, has weighed in on the internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that ongoing legal disputes could reshape the party’s leadership.
Speaking in an interview posted on Trust TV’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Ardo said, “The worst that can happen to them is for the courts to remove the David Mark group and hand it over to the Nafiu group.”
He said the struggle for control of the party had created uncertainty among stakeholders, as a court ruling recognising a different faction could affect previous administrative decisions and candidate selections.
Ardo argued that the dispute reflects broader weaknesses within opposition parties, which he said too often rely on litigation instead of building durable political institutions.
He added that, regardless of the outcome of the legal battle, elections would still take place, urging opposition groups to strengthen their organisational structures rather than depend on temporary legal remedies.
