I Had an Accident Two Weeks After My Introduction. My Lover Came to the Hospital and Ended Our Relationship — Victim

Loveth Sunday, a 27-year-old hairstylist and perfume seller from Oraifite in Anambra State, has recounted how a 2019 road accident left her with an amputated leg and ended her engagement.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Sunday said the accident occurred on April 12, 2019, near Oraifite Police Station while she was travelling to Onitsha. She alleged that a commercial bus with failed brakes rammed into three people by the roadside, killing two, while she survived with severe injuries.

She said she was reportedly turned away by five hospitals before being admitted to a sixth, where she remained unconscious for five days. After regaining consciousness, doctors informed her that one of her legs could not be saved. She was later referred to Uzondu Orthopaedic Hospital, where the leg was amputated after doctors warned that delaying the procedure could be life-threatening.

Sunday revealed that she had held her introduction ceremony with her fiancé on March 23, 2019, just weeks before the accident.

“At first, when he was called, he came to the hospital. After he left, he stopped calling; he stopped checking on me, and that signified the end of the relationship,” she said, adding that when she later reached out, he told her he could no longer continue with the relationship after the accident.
